And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I drew a cow elk tag in Nevada on my 4th try in my 2nd zone choice out of 3 choices. It was in Esmeralda county. Being born and raised in northern New Mexico in the Rockies I had seen my fair share of big Bull elk. This bull in Esmeralda county that walked right into my ambush zone was and is the largest bull elk rack I have ever seen. His body however was almost skin and bones. He was definitely the daddy of all the next year calf's. BTW I didn't fill my cow tag that year but a buddy of mine said he saw that Bull in a hunting camp not far from where I set up 2 weeks earlier. Needless to say the lucky hunter was one happy guy! On another note. The largest Bull elk I've ever seen as far as mass is concerned was East of Silver City N.M. in the back of a Chevy pickup. He barely fit in the bed diagonally.
we followed three males at a distance of fifty yards for +/- 15 minutes, maybe three year olds, while hunting in montana. we were in a pickup and just slowly went along with them, the phrase "magnificent animal" applied. we had no tags.
probably rutting season - another way of playing odd-man out to see who gets first dibs...
ReplyDeleteWe're told animals don't think. So what do you suppose is going through their heads? ow? ow? ow? ow? But that's also thinking.
ReplyDeleteWell, if they're actually thinkin', they're thinkin' like most males around a beautiful woman, with the wrong head.
DeleteI've read their antlers are so arranged as to avoid actual mortal injury.
