  1. The fins on the wing are to keep the airflow from defecting to the West.

    1. I believe the fins are called "Vortex Generators". Something to do with stall I believe. Could be wrong.

    2. Wing fences to help keep boundary layer air flow from running out spanwise towards the wingtips (where it then defects to the West). It helps low speed control. Better wing designs don't require them.

  3. Funny thing is, I do not believe that was an original Soviet design. Shortly before WW2 ended, Henkel had a prototype which strongly, very strongly resembled what became the Mig. Coincidence???
