And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I had this as a kid.
We used to fill the tub with water, load GI Joe in the capsule, and toss him in -- splashdown! Then it was hit or miss whether he would make it out before it sank and swim to shore. Great fun.
I had the G.I.Joe astronaut, but my parents wouldn't buy me the capsule because it was too expensive. Some years back they came out with a new version and it looked too cheap for the money they wanted for it. sigh.
One I did not have but many of the others Jeep and Helicopter were best. You can't beat the kung fu grip and always lost that damn colt 1911 they came with.
If mom hadn't pitched all that out when I left for college, I could pay my rent or spend a weekend in Vegas just for what the capsule alone is worth now.
This toy is way after my time. I'm from the Lone Ranger holster, white hat and two recolver cap gun era.
ReplyDeleteEither way, you both (myself included) were lucky to grow up in a time that supported imaginative play.
DeleteI had a 50 fanner, and a Mattel snub nose 38 with greenie stickem caps and it fired real plastic bullets.

I wanted one of those in the worst way when I was a kid. That and the Apollo Snoopy!
