  3. I've seen that before -- but with a 24' boat over the top of a full size sedan tow vehicle. Not a pretty sight.
    As a person having owned boats for over 50 years, and towing same several thousands of miles, I wince when I see boats on trailers not strapped down in the rear (trailer to rear lifting eyes), and without an extra strap from the front eye (where the winch strap is attached) directly to the trailer tongue below.
    Depending on the winch strap alone -- one that is made of nylon and has sat out out in the sun for how many years -- to hold the boat on the trailer by itself is just plain asinine.
    A wire cable winch "rope" is less susceptible to sun deterioration, but the usual size of winch cable has a safe load strength of only a few thousand pounds (when in new condition), and it too will break in an accident situation.

  6. I wonder if the owner had just bought the boat and was unaware of the missing straps holding the boat on the trailer at the stern?
    So much to learn when you first get a boat...

  7. Dad, I borrowed the boat today. having boat trailer trouble. The boat is at 5th and main, the truck and trailer are at 4th and main...
