  1. I drove that from Melbourne to Cairns. Beautiful drive. Went through a small coastal town called Naroma. The beach was unbelievably spectacular.

    1. The South Coast of New South Wales is a fantastic area if you like seaside holidays (vacations to you Americans) and Narooma is a beautiful spot to stop over. The name is said to be an Aboriginal derivative that means “clear blue waters”.

  2. Bill Bryson wrote a book some time back (2001) named IN A SUNBURNED COUNTRY that is one of my favorite reads. Funny and very educational about a country that most of the world ignores because of its location. Austrailia is on my Bucket List. Unfortunately, the gun confiscation crowd is strong there.

  4. Missed on two heartfelt attempts at a visit. Still a sentimental favorite but life superseded lines on the list. Still occasionally tune in ABC, upgraded from SW to 'Net radidio.

  5. My daughter-in-laws Gram and gramps circumnavigated the continent for their honeymoon, in a '49 ford pickup w/ a 16' camp trailer (though she referred to to as a 5m caravan.)

  6. Meh.
We have roads that long in the States, but we had the good manners to change the numbers when we change direction.
Being convict stock, the original builders probably couldn't count any higher than 1.

    Tip your waitresses.
    Try the veal.
