    1. Maybe, maybe not. My brother had a '76 F-250 4x4 that was that color that he bought new. It was a fairly unusual color to see on the road so I always figured Ford marketed it to contractors, who seemed to like their company pickups that color back then.

  2. I had a 78 F-100 Ranger XLT 4x4 that I picked up cheap when it was 10 years old and burning over a quart of oil with every tank of gas because of the worn valve guides. I rebuilt the 400M that had 65k miles where I increased the stock 170ish HP to a little over 300 HP. A cam for low end torque, Holly 700 carb, worked heads, and headers as the bottom end was tight. That engine with a granny gear 4 speed going to 4:10 LS rear and a spool in the front axle on 33 Ground Hawgs got 11-12 mpg normal driving. It would get 15 on the highway but it saw the woods more. It was still running strong when I sold it in 1999.
