And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
A guy wrote in to Tom McCahill's column in Mechanix Illustrated back in the day. He said that he had a Rambler American that would do 100 mph, strictly stock. McCahill replied, "You must have a hell of a long hill." My high school girlfriend was given one of those by her dad for her sixteenth birthday. That would have been in '58. It wasn't much, but it beat my '50 Studebaker.
Circa 1958 a great aunt had one with an automatic transmission. Had a different way of starting the engine and engaging the transmission. Can't remember what (fog of time) but I had difficulty driving it. Ride was nice by the standards of the day.
My last name is Nash but most people hear it as Mash. I used to be able to say "Nash...just like the old car." and most people would get it. Not anymore. Now I have to say "Nash...you know, like Nash Bridges." Unfortunately, fewer and fewer people get THAT reference anymore. I'm gonna have to say "Nash. Beginning with N for Nancy." or something.
Looks like a 1970s Russian vehicle.

ReplyDeleteI'd think those enclosed wheel-wells would scrape the tires when turning, at least for the front.

ReplyDeleteThe thing I like most about them is some of the tail light assemblies are the same as my 1958 Alfa Romeo Gulietta Spider.
