And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I remember that magazine well. It's always been amusing to me that within a decade of this issue the term "Analog" came to mean "Hopelessly old-fashioned" as the hip new thing became "Digital."
Subscribed to Analog and its predecessor, Astounding Science Fiction, from the late 50's to the early 70's. I didn't like it much after Campbell died and the magazine became more "woke". They were all thrown away in a fit of garage cleaning. I sure miss'em now.
You tossed out a lot of cash. Recently a friend of mine from high school let me know he had found a box of my old comic books. Did I want him to sell them along with his, as he was disposing of his collection. $2,100. And these were the 'reading' copies.
I enjoyed that story when I read it, but now I think a more likely ending would be the pilot and plane ending up next to the Ark of the Covenant, being studied by Top Men.
I have that issue. :)
ReplyDeleteI read that issue in Hospital back in 1969, I don't seem to be able to lay y hands on it right now....
ReplyDeleteExcellent time travel story and a great cover illustration by Kelly Freas.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how they got the SR71 profile when it was top secret.
ReplyDeletePresident Johnson revealed the "SR-71" to the public in 1964, so adapting it to illustrate this cover of this in 1968 is no surprise.
DeleteWhat is it about democratic presidents revealing secrets that would get the rest of us thrown into jail?
DeleteJohnson, Carter, Clinton, Obama... It's like they can't shut their darned mouths.
