      I guess if you're an astronaut from the navy you'd have to wear the NASA wings.

  3. I saw one of these take off back in the day...lumbering down the runway, seemingly forever, until it literally VAULTED into the air at a steep angle...and it was gone.

    1. I think you are confusing this plane, the X-15, with either an SR-71 or a U2. This plane was dropped from the wing of a B52.
