And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Anyone know what kind of bird this is? On the back fence in Redding, Ca. There's two of them and I'm pretty sure they have a nest somewhere.
Yes they do. Thanks to you and Anon below for the ID. I've never seen one this color before, and they don't seem to be all that afraid of me. They let me get surprisingly close before flying off.
Looks like a species of Towhee. Do they spend alot of time rummaging about on the ground in leaf and pine litter?

DeleteI have some canyon towhees and “surprisingly close” is an understatement. More like almost domesticated. One comes inside sometimes.
