And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
#16 was Mark Donahue's Matador and #12 was Bobby Allison's. Two of my all-time favorite drivers. Both also possessed the added skills of good mechanic-engineer. Performance of '67-'68 Team Penske Camaro's are still pretty much unmatched seasons. Hard to say what Penske-Donahue sold more of; Camaro's or Sunoco gas.
First car to use disk brakes in a NASCAR race....Bobby Allison swept Darlington in a Matador in '75....not a bad looking car for the time....I remember the commercial...."What was that?"....."Why.....that was a Matador"....
Yes they did: https://pergelator.blogspot.com/2020/01/remember-american-motors.html
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing hopped up Javelins back in the day up against Camaros and Mustangs.
ReplyDeleteThey were pretty successful in the Trans Am series.
ReplyDeleteMark Donahue comes to mind.

ReplyDeleteThat's even more surprising. Someone has used BRAKES in a NASCAR race?
DeleteGlad to have seen Donahue race in Trans Am and Can Am. Can't remember if I saw him in F1. I was going to a lot of races in those days.
ReplyDeleteI drove a Gremlin for years & my wife had a Pacer. Drove the wheels off those cars. At least I could work on them.
ReplyDeleteThat.....that right there is the comment of the day! "At least I could work on them."
DeleteSaw Donohue race the Penske Javelin in Trans Am at Riverside. I oughtta find those photos...
