  2. I've always called it a Michigan Axe, and use it both for felling and splitting.

  3. Apologizing for the stupid question upfront - why did the ax head installer choose to 'char' the wood at the eye ? I've heard that fire hardening wood will make it tougher, but in this case, wouldn't the repeated impacts pulverize the underlying wood ?

    That is a well composed photo - the colors look awesome as well as very clearly focused. Thank for the photo !
