And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Both outriggers are deployed. My best guess is that the starbord (right) outrigger did not release the line, giving this powerful and heavy criiter the leverage needed to capsize the boat. This would swamp the boat enough to flood the cocpit causing it to go down by the stern. This makes more sense to me if the bottom image was the first in the sequence.
I think the story was, the captain was backing down on the line to be ready to recover the fish, using too much throttle - and the boat took an unusually large swell over the transom, which swamped it. The marlin is close to the boat because it's been mostly reeled in, which wouldn't have been possible if the line was still attached to the outrigger - detaching it is the first thing you do when you start fighting to reel your catch in.
