Bombs Away

  1. Was the A-6 the very last dedicated bomber to fly for the Navy? Or will there be another?

  2. Considering the disaster that is the USS Ford, it is likely we will not have any Navy aircraft sometime soon.

  3. Once again the USN screws the pooch by giving this incredible plane the bum's rush instead upgrading the A-6 with new engines and avionics. Back in the day it could deliver a B-29 bomb load in any weather, any time down in the weeds. Let's see the steaming pile F-35 do that.........

  4. My Dad flew A-6A's in Vietnam for the Marine Corps. I asked him once , while watching an old WWII movie, how much bomb load he could carry. He answered that he could take of with a B-17 and its associated bomb load under his wings.

Now what medium bomber does the Navy have? The Forrestal class carrier (the first "super" carrier) carried over 90 combat aircraft in its Carrier Air Croup. The Nimitz class regularly deploy with 60-70 aircraft.
