Wrecked WWII plane just below the surface of the water in Guam

  1. Not sure what it is, but I'm fairly sure it's not an F4U.

  2. Japanese twin engine plane, probably at Palau, not Guam. Flaps lowered, so probably trying to make emergency landing and jungle has grown up over time. I'd guess a G-4M Betty.

  3. That's a TBM "avenger". Notice the prop on the front UNDER the engine, The landing gear can be seen where the skin is gone on the wing nearest. The long opening for the canopy with the distinctive round spot in the back for the turret , and the far wing has lifted where it started to fold. There are a lot of other little details that say it was an "Avenger" although it is too far gone to tell who made it----Ray

    1. agree with the avenger. the high/midwing and fillet is the givaway for me. definitely not a twin.

  4. The Guam part of this is questionable.
Spent a bit of time there and never seen nor heard of this aircraft.
And that plane would have been a attraction.

    1. I agree. Spent six months there in summer of 73. I would have gone to see this and there was no talk of anything like it. Were told to not explore in the jungle as there is too much unexploded ordinance laying about.
