And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
They crashed a lot during testing and in early deployments, but they're a logical follow-on to helicopters. Marine One is scheduled to be an Osprey soon.
I was on the roof of a paper mill where I worked when two V22's in copter mode and 3 Blackhawks flew right over my at head at about 200 feet. It was a soul stirring moment!
They used them a bit in the recovery from Harvey a couple of years ago, which meant they overflew my home on the way to the Houston area. I had lots of helicopter traffic for about 2 months, and the occasional Osprey. They make an unmistakable, formidable inflight sound that usually makes the unfamiliar stop, look up, and say "what the Hell is THAT?"
They overfly our place on the NC coast almost every day - along with CH-53's, Cobras, and even Hueys. And the occasional Coast Guard Dolphin. Can definitely tell the difference in the sounds of all of them. Oh yeah, we get the occasional F-18 and Harrier - imagine we'll see some F-35's before too long ...
