  2. The original name for Arco was Root Hog. Wikipedia: "Arco was the first community in the world ever to be lit by electricity generated solely by nuclear power. This occurred for about an hour on July 17, 1955, powered by Argonne National Laboratory’s BORAX-III reactor at the nearby National Reactor Testing Station (NRTS), which eventually became the site of the Idaho National Energy Laboratory, a predecessor of the current Idaho National Laboratory." (I'm guessing that's why Cederq recommended to not drink the water... you might glow afterwards.

    1. It may have some radioactive contamination. I was referring to several years back the water system was contaminated and rusty and when going through there to eat at the Atomic Cafe for their damn good hamburgers it was closed as well as the rest of the town because they had their water system dug up and being replaced. You couldn't even wash your dishes with the water it was so bad.

  4. Arco is an interesting place to visit and I recommend taking the time to drive that way instead of staying in the freeway.

Uss Hawkbill's sail is on display there. SSN 666

Also, nearby is Americas first breeder reactor museum with lots of atomic toys to play with. One display allows you to attempt to raise or lower simulated rods. Just how steady are your hands?

Just to the south east along the highway is Craters Of The Moon National Park.
