And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? What fun a squadron of whatever these are would be today.
I love the Grumman products. The Navy version of Republic Aircraft. Thick, strong, capable of taking damage, and surprisingly cutting edge for their times.
Yet another fantastic company that has been absorbed away.
Until it came time to change sparkplugs. Even routine maintenance would be a pain. Remember that after the pilot went gloriously roaring through the skies, he turned that plane over to a crew chief and a herd of mechanics with the full resources of the US Navy to keep it going.
I would LOVE to own one. Maintaining it would be a beast, but worth the price of admission.
ReplyDeleteSome type of early Grumman. https://padresteve.com/2010/11/15/wings-of-gold-u-s-navy-carrier-aircraft-1935-1941/.
ReplyDeleteGrumman FF carrier fighter. Notice the retractable landing gear.
ReplyDeleteAnd tailhook.
DeleteThat's sweet. You can see the lineage of that plane all the way up through the F4F Wildcat with it's distinctive main landing gear.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo.
