And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My first car was a '70 Westie. As much as I love VW's I gotta say, the thing stranded me more than once, each time on Hwy 101.
One time it was the strangest thing: carburetor ice! The previous owner had left off some of the sheetmetal that makes the engine compartment a sealed, heated space, and the very cold damp ambient air was icing up in the intake manifold. Took a while to diagnose, as the evidence melted each time.
1970 was the last year of drum brakes all around and I experienced total brake failure (overheating & brake fade) a couple of times too.
