And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

A photograph of Confederate soldiers captured at Gettysburg, July 1863
This is from one single photo. There are three soldiers in the original. The other soldier is standing and holding his jacket, with his hands at his chest. He has the look of proud defiance, while in the midst of his enemies. My Gr-gr-grandfather was in the 15th Alabama Inf Regt and engaged with the 20th Maine on Little Round Top. He survived the war and stacked arms at Appomattox at 43 years of age.
My Gr-gr-grandfather was with the Alabama 20th and was captured at Vicksburg.
I was telling a coworker about this and he said his Gr-gr-grandfather was at Vicksburg too fighting for the North. We looked up the battlefield and they were straight across from each other. I noted it was a good thing they were both bad shots...
They don't look in the mood to deal with any Yankee BS.
