Long nosed dog is afraid

  1. File under "pattern recognition in animals". I came home one night, tossed my geometric patterned necktie on the bed, ( I thought) but failed in the attempt. The tie fell on the floor in a crumpled mass. Enter the cat. I saw her out of the corner of my eye, body semi arched, hair expanded, creeping slowly towards the tie. It was evident she viewed this 'shape' as hostile, and only after slowly approaching did she decide otherwise. I think humans often suppress innate fears that can serve to guide us. I still have my copy of Gavin DeBeckers' "The Gift of Fear" that was purchased years ago. It seems we share some basic survival skills with our animal friends, but polite society attempts to suppress them.
