Start the new year with a new aftershave

Or there's always this, Irish Moss.

A fresh boar bristle shaving brush should be on any man's list.

Or, start the year off with a professional shave by a fine lady barber.   I dunno what this would cost, but somehow, at least once a year, it would seem to be very much worth it.

  1. A shave like that is what every man deserves.

When I was in Korea, every haircut came with a shave like that, as the Koreans felt like that was the sort of thing that went together - like ham and cheese in a sandwich. Naturally, the US Navy personnel at Chinhae always were impeccably groomed and nobody ever was gigged for having hair that was "too long". In the US, we've lost some of those essential things in our rush to get here or there.

There's a barber shop in Los Angeles that offers that service and the shave comes with a shot of single malt and a nice cigar. It's the way to start your day.

    1. Wow, a shot of single malt would be prime with a shave. I'm thinking that a good tradition to start is to go to a worthy barber in January and get the full treatment, as you describe, to start every year off correctly. I was doing some research in my area, and I think I've found the first candidate. Full report later.

    2. You owe it to yourself. You work hard, keep your family in the lap of luxury, etc.

The last time I was at that place in LA, getting a shave - had to be 6 years or so ago, James Caan, the actor, was sitting in the chair next to me getting the same treatment. You only live once, my friend.

  2. The price of Clubman better not go up. That's been my flavour for several years now. I was hoping to keep it my secret.

  3. Interesting video! I have wondered how it was done.
It would be great for a guy to have done, at a min. of once a year.

  4. I've used Pinaud's "Lilac Vegetal" after shave for more than 20 years. It has a little milder after scent than Pinaud "Clubman" and I buy it on line from Harmon's discount/Bed, bath and beyond for about $7 (12 fl ozs).

  5. I'm sorry, I guess I am an old grouch, but if I was the owner of that place I would not allow employees to chew gum . Such a classy looking place and she's chewing her cud. No I didn't miss the point , just fussing about a little detail.
