And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Well, not a hundred years - although what was left to homestead was mostly Northern bush. But until even very recently paying a $10 fee then "proving up" a homestead by cultivating at least 40 acres and erecting a habitable dwelling would give you "free" title to a quarter section (160 acres). Knew an enterprising fellow who spent three summers with a chain saw carving himself out a very respectable fishing camp this way, although I don't think his 40 acres under cultivation was what the Act really had in mind, and there never was a forth summer's crop ...
Sorry, you are a hundred years too late!
