Check out the new Mahindra Roxor.....
$15-18k, 3000 lbs, not street legal, electronically limited to 45mph.Consider a used Suzuki Samurai instead. Going up in price but still around $4-5k.
That was my exact thought seeing that picture. JEEP is in an uproar about the Roxor but heck, they are not going to go back and build a non street legal CJ-3. The Roxor fills and interesting niche and I hope Mahindra can prevail in the import battle; the Roxor is being assembled in the US.
I'd buy it too. Too bad that manufacturers don't understand the widespread demand for something simple like that at a reasonable price. I don't need a radio, I don't need fancy upholstery, or an auto-suck. Keep it light, nimble, simple and easy to repair. If I want to mod it into something else, that's on me.
Yep - you, me and probably several million former GIs who had the fortune to drive one of the earlier versions. Mine were M151A1 and M151A2 versions. I understand that many thousands of them were simply crushed for scrap after the Hummer took over. Some bureaucrat 'decided' that it would put the gubmint into potential legal jeopardy should mere Citizens have them. Sadly the days of finding one still in its original crate have long since passed by...............;-)
