A good rock is hard to find.

Near the top of Ballygilbert Hill and offering fine views over the North Channel to Scotland, close to the “Ulster Way” footpath, this small ( around 5 feet high) but well-sited Cloughogan is remarkable for its unmistakably phallic form. The meaning behind these types of standing stones will never be known, but whatever they meant by them, the ancients certainly went to a lot of effort to stand up a lot of rocks.  There's a whole world forever disappeared that we will never understand, and that these old rocks only hint at.  They beckon us to remember the elder and their ways, but give no further clue to the world they knew, long lost and faded into the cold and swirling mists of Ireland.

  1. Looks to me like a statue of Obama. They were trying to warn us, but we didn't listen!
