Ebola update

Thomas Duncan died this morning of the disease.     I certainly didn't approve of the way he got here, but since he had the gumption to get all the way from Monrovia to Dallas, easily leaping over the pathetically low barriers set up by our government, I was hoping he would make it.

On the other hand, there is this:

"Those looking for good news on the fight against Ebola will not find much encouragement from Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly, the commander of the U.S. Southern Command. As Jim Garamone of Department of Defense News reports, Kelly told an audience at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday that, if the disease reaches Central America, "it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States." He also said with certainty that "there is no way we can keep Ebola [contained] in West Africa."

I imagine that the Mexicans, not being burdened by a president that wants to import the disease, will literally close their southern border and shoot anyone who tries to cross.  Here, Obama will likely order the border patrol to send flights down to Tegucigalpa to fly Ebola patient here, on "humanitarian" grounds.  Really, if he dithers any more on doing even the simplest things to keep infected people out, then he will get impeached, with strong Democratic support.  After November, I expect the party will blame him for their severe defeat at the polls, and will be in the mood for no more self inflicted disasters, especially if it is the importation of an epidemic the likes of which we haven't seen since smallpox.

CDC head states Ebola air born transmission possible but unlikely.  Unless it mutates.  If that happens, it really will be a huge disaster, devastating the economy, the population, and pretty much everything else.

Related:  Spanish nurse now with the disease cannot think of how she got it.  Doctor thinks she was infected in the process of taking off her protective suit.

  1. From your lips to God's ears....

The Mexicans are already tighter than a pair of hot pants on their southern border. It makes what they do on their northern border all the more hypocritical. I really hope I'm wrong, but I think this is gonna get a lot uglier.

    1. Chances of ugliness are increasing every day, it seems.

    3. That's for sure.

Also, I can sum up what would terrify me about Obama getting impeached in two words:

      President Biden

      *shudder*

  2. People will start shooting people who are coming up from Mexico and the government won't be able to do much to stop it (because US people will turn on them if they try). It's like one of those horror movies and it's no joke -- though the White House seems to think that it's racial bias.

Ebola is one of those things that can kill half of more of all the people on the planet -- mutations being as likely as they are with this virus, possibly well over 2/3 of the people on the planet. Where is that cabin in the arctic when you need it?

    1. A horror movie is a good analogy. I think, seriously, I'm gonna stock up on canned food.

    2. Your kids are in school. All of those young people concentrated. One single virus one tiny single microscopic ebola bit of protein...I have kids too. That's what worries me.
