  1. Neighbor retired from repairing, installing & collecting from those things...30 years ago. Was *still* talking about his job, like he just retired last week. Still, a great guy.

  5. Ahhh, a reminder of my 44 year career with AT&T. Didn't have anything to do with pay phones though. Started with AT&T Long Lines in '69 and went through the transition from analog to digital, as well as the divestiture/breakup of the Bell System.

  7. I told my coworkers that if I could make it to a payphone to call in sick I was not that bad. If I did not show up and did not call in sick, I was in the hospital.
    last time I tried to call in sick in 2009 there was no pay phone in town. that was when I got my first cell phone
