  3. Once upon a time I was working on a project that we were testing out at Avon Park Bombing Range in Florida and I got to watch F-16's do live fire strafing runs with that 20mm Vulcan. Be afraid.

  4. Heh. Once upon a time I worked for (at the time) Raytheon Missile Systems near the engineering, design, and test building for PHALANX, watching and listening to them being dry-fired. Saw an early trailer-mounted prototype too. One time, got to “steer” a remote-control version under test.
    Yes, big BRRRRRRT. Only bigger brrrrrt was the GAU-8 on the A-10.

  5. The first time I heard a CIWS go off, I was in the hangar bay. Sounded like God running a big stick over the world's biggest corrugated tin roof, at speed.
