And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Saw a video over the weekend from somewhere in east Asia of a section of road such as this in front of a tunnel collapsing off the mountainside. Imagine the road in this pic, the parts wet from the rain, from where the woman is standing to 3/4 way to the curve, coming off and sliding downhill.
Perhaps a very long time ago. I live nearby adn have not seen a similar scene on the Parkway during the last 20 years I have lived here. The Fraser Firs are dead and there are not enough Red Spruces for that scene.
Funny, but my first thought was "The minute someone comes around that bend, that jack@$$ is going to be a hood ornament before caroming around in the tunnel."
what a cool section of road. I wonder where it is?
ReplyDeleteThat beautiful photo image would fit nicely in the Friday "Open Road" photo essay.

ReplyDeleteShe must be a politician--(sticking to the center of the road, although she does appear to be looking to the right).
ReplyDeleteA guess as to location: Historic Columbia Highway... east a bit of Troutdale, Oregon
ReplyDeleteNope. That's taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.
