  1. B-17G-110-VE, built by Lockheed-Vega in Burbank California and delivered to the Army on 16 July 1945. Was immediately flown to Texas for storage.

    Canadian-built Lancaster B.X, based on earlier British B.III but with Canadian and US electronics and instruments.

  2. Working outside I heard an unmistakable sound. It took me a bit to realize I had seen a Lancaster pass overhead. My next thought, What's it doing in California?

    I had seen an F-4 parked next to a B-17. The Phantom cockpit was higher up than that of the -17. It gave me a new appreciation of the scale of that ship, the Fortress, and the men who went to war in it.
