  6. She had a face with character. Back then, you would call such a woman 'handsome' and it would be a compliment, with a specific meaning, that she is good looking in a certain way. She wouldn't have been called beautiful though.

  7. The story of her relationship to John Wayne during and after the filming of Rooster Cogburn is an interesting one. While in real life they were political opposites, they formed a deep mutual admiration society while making the movie. Knowing that makes watching the movie that much more enjoyable today.

    The were both remarkable people.
