  4. This reminds me of Lindsey Jacobellis at the 2006 Winter Olympics — she was dominating the women’s snowboard cross final, with a huge lead and victory all but guaranteed. But just before the finish line, she threw in an unnecessary trick — a showboating method grab — and wiped out. That one split-second decision cost her the gold, as she was overtaken by Switzerland’s Tanja Frieden and had to settle for silver. It became one of the most iconic “don’t celebrate too early” moments in sports history — a painful lesson in humility and focus that stuck with her for years.
