Mr. Harrell used the meat target. Two T-shirts, a layer of pork ribs in the front, a bag of oranges to simulate lung tissue, a layer of pork ribs on the back, followed by the new and improved seven layers of fleece in the back. More informative than the ballistic gel.
Berry's makes a 38 wadcutter with a hollow base, I use them flip with the hollow base up and it makes a nice size hole in "things" it about 148 grains and loaded to plus p loads works really well on "things" Mom always had wadcutters in her 38 Smith, 4 inch barrel and she could hit playing cards with it at 25 yards all day long too. one of my sisters grabbed it. anyway. I like the federal 124 grain HST loads in my 9mm.
I sent this photo to a bunch of my active duty and retired cop buddies and some of them said that over the years they have used most of the 9 mm rounds but most of them prefer the 40 cal.

The medium they shoot is clear ballistics gell bullet expansion via digital caliper and penetration that is compared to the FBI standard for a duty / defense round.
the most lethal man I ever met carried a 22lr pistol. it started out as a target pistol. but had the barrel cut down and sights removed. he had line machined on the top of it. the grips where made with Bondo auto body putty. and he could empty the magazine in under a minute while putting all of the round inside a playing card at 25 yards. he was a old "spook" from WW2 time. hell of a nice guy though. wicked fast with a knife as well too.
I would like to know: what medium they shot into and how many rounds of each to get a perfect one.....

I've abandoned the concept of bullet expansion in the J frame I sometimes carry and just use hard cast full profile wadcutters with a .38 +P load.

What matters more is depths of penetration of the bullet.

ReplyDelete.38 158g SWCHP +P does the trick….you can “X” the nose with a pocket knife for a bit more initial expansion…they dropped flat in a crumble…

Pardon my ignorance, but what type and size of cartridges are those? I'd guess 45 ACP but I'm probably wrong.

The FBI terminal performance Protocol is the universal standard used by the ammo industry and law enforcement agencies. Nothing else matters.
