And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
As a sophomore in high school wood shop, I cut my thumb badly but not all the way. In the ER, the guy next to me with his detached thumb in a bowl of ice. He too on a bandsaw. We figured we had our accidents at the same time, almost right to the minute.
My mistake was not squaring the table to the blade. I was focused on the top of the cut ( a large bowl blank) when the blade exited the bottom of the cut.
His mistake was a coworker distracted him for that brief second.
Had a wood sign shop for more than fifty years. Never had an employee who ever had to have a stich. Most accidents happen when you're untrained, or under pressure. Maintaining safe equipment is top of the list. I always insisted that if you were unsure...Ask! Bubbarust

That thumb is way too close to that band saw blade. Why no push stick or frame? Some poor third world schmuck risking a horrible injury for $2 a day?

My ex-boss chopped both of his thumbs off on two consecutive days using a miter saw. There was no third day.
