    1. It is a longshore hook (bale hook, cargo hook, etc) used to move things by hooking, in this case, the fish...

    2. His left forearm/hand are under the tail of what ever kind of fish that is. He appears to be trying to get it close enough for the other guy to hook into it. Look closer.

    2. Just to prove it could have been done. Man, those were some ballsy sailors. The original expedition even manufactured the raft from materials the the original people used to make that journey.

  5. Thor Heyerdahl was the first to sail from the west coast of South America on a primitive raft in 1947. Later he sailed from the west coast of Africa to Barbados.
