And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Ventura Pl. Mission Beach, San Diego CA (1978). Really? Looks ragged for San D.
"Sit back, relax, and transport yourself to a simpler time. The soothing voice of News 8 weatherman Doug Oliver will surely do the trick. "Mission Beach--sun, sand, and yes, even suntan lotion, but mostly, just San Diego."" https://youtu.be/-DF4Wk9AYuw?si=5poxsZer8fwWyQIP
it wasn't a bad place. As I recall the Onion was there and I can't believe the roller coaster and the Plunge are still there. The Robertos with the best fish tacos was right there. I really enjoyed living there from 1985 to 2010.
I was close by in 1980. I had gone to spend the summer in San Diego with my Aunt and Cousin, who lived on Gertrude Street near Fiesta Island. Magical time, my last summer before H.S. graduation.
Remember body surfing, was just. kid, finding good take out, loved the food, and the Cali Girls, they looked real good. Was lots of good times, beat NH wintertime except skying.
NO city is homogeneous. After a busy weekend of visitors, I'm sure the beach adjacent roads all look pretty littered and crappy.
ReplyDeleteThat looks about right for 78 and 79. Go behind the pizza place and buy a lid of mexican red for $25.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you talking about? She looks ok.

DeleteIt must be some sort of a curse to look at a girl and wonder how she will look like as a grandma. My condolences :)

That's it! I lived 20 miles east of there, San Diego, El Cajon (pronounced, El Kah-hone) east county, foot hills.
ReplyDeleteLived there 30 years later and trying to figure out the spot. Things change. A whole shitload.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a long time ago...30+ yrs?
