And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Those were the days. That and lawn darts. And drinking hose water.
The Water Wiggle was more fun as you never knew where it was going to go. Add in Slip and Slide and you've got a rockin' late 60s/ early 70s summer for sure.
I was from then. But one day in 1980 on a 8 mile run. The 50 yr old coach led us through a nice neighborhood, and I saw the hose draining to the curb. Drank some. It was a rich dude draining his pool.
Never had such amenities. Get on your bike and and a half mile down the road and a 1/4 mile walk and I'll show you the deepest hole in the creek. Probably 10 ft deep and a rope swing to boot. 50 years later I'm guessing it's never been used again or even discovered.

ReplyDeleteTaped an Estes D engine to a lawn dart (50 years ago). It went about 15’ but I felt like I was the bazooka man.

ReplyDeleteStill got a set of JARTS. Still fun at summer get togethers. Just try not to pierce a stray kid or dog running around the yard.
