And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Right you are, Ghost. Le Mans has had some very tragic spectator-involved crashes such as in 1955. For sheer foolishness, I nominate the typical rally crowd that sometimes cross the road to get to the pub while race traffic is barreling down on them.
The movie "Ferrari" from a couple years ago very, Very, VERY graphically shows it. My wife is stilled pissed that she had to see that scene in a theatre.
The tunnel isn't part of the race circuit. The afternoon before race day there used to be a parade (this pic is from '90 or '91) through the town of Le Mans. Since 1995 it has been replaced by a 'grande parade des pilotes' where the drivers are driven through town in classic open tourers. Al_in_Ottawa
The only Wankel engined car to win Le Mans, the Mazda 787. Does anyone know where that tunnel is?

Google returns the following: "the Wilbur Wright tunnel in the Old Town of Le Mans."

ReplyDeleteone of the smartest things in the world is to stand 10 feet away from a 200 mph missile
