It's claimed these will take about 15% of the stress off your knees. Plus, very useful for crossing creeks.

  1. Have a set of Black Diamonds that are pretty similar. Originally bought them for packing out elk quarters during archery season, but as I get older I find that I'm reaching for them for different reasons.

  2. Especially if you are older, you may never have realized how much extra energy you expend while hiking, just maintaining basic balance and stability, and not just while crossing creeks. When carrying a heavy pack, just controlling the load is an constant unconscious effort. When I started using poles, my fatigue level on long days was FAR less. It's like having 4 legs. I will never go back.

  3. Thank you. I just caved in to the pain. I think these will be better'n a walker because I can stay more upright, be less likely to go permanently stooped. Heavy sigh.
