And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Do not buy a Stetson on the internet. There is too much fluctuation in sizing from one hat style/material to another. Go into a brick and mortar and try them on.
Straw hats only seem like an excellent summer hat. Usually, they spray a lot of acrylics on the hat so it can maintain its shape. So, you are basically wearing a piece of plastic with holes in it on your head. A felt hat by contrast absorbs the sweat from your head and evaporates it creating a cooling zone. That explains the Ten-gallon hat shape. To get the best hat find yourself a local manufacturer that molds and shapes the hat. I've been told that Stetson switched to the stamp and press technique years ago, which reduced the overall quality of their hats. I learned all this working for a hat manufacturer one summer.
The John B. Stetson Company, founded by John B. Stetson in 1865, was the maker of the Stetson cowboy hats, but ceased manufacturing in 1970. Stetson hats are now being manufactured in Garland, Texas, by Hatco, Inc., who also produce Resistol and Charlie 1 Horse hats.
Synonymous with quality, Hatco manufactures the most famous brands in head wear including Stetson, Resistol, Charlie 1 Horse, and Dobbs. Hatco also sells western apparel and boots under the Resistol brand.
