  3. My Judo coach, the esteemed Rene Pomerelle, also instructed Kendo at our Kodokan in Wiesbaden, Germany, (1968-1970). The Kendo classes were usually just after our Judo classes so I got to watch many hours of sword play. My observation of the match as presented is a woman, while swift with sword, wbeing out matched by a man, superior in strength. He held his own through her advance and then forced her back with his simple lunge.

  5. When my father, sister and me took judo lessons in Japan in 1965-67, our dojo was split in half, with kendo on one side and judo on the other side. Those kendo dudes were loud!
