And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
First angle-deck carrier was HMS Triumph in 1952. The Swordfish biplane torpedo bomber ended its service in May 1945. So that photo is either faked, or it's a real image of a Swordfish performing a memorial flyover.
The carrier looks a lot like HMS Victorious post 1958, and clearly is not under way; I'd say a memorial flyover. As for the torpedo, I believe I have seen that done on other occasions.
Why are there so many tugboats? It looks like those on the starboard side are pushing hard. The Royal Navy Historic Flight has two Swordfish so this pic could have been taken any time in the '70s before the RN went to the ski-jump carriers. Al_in_Ottawa

DeleteCould be a dummy torpedo for a memorial flyover. I've been to airshows at which various old warbirds sported dummy external ordnance.
DeleteCould be The Final Countdown.
DeleteWow that is a great camera shot. Iconic even.
ReplyDeleteWave off! That's not the pattern you were taught.
