And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Pheasants do that... Many years ago a couple of friends were hunting pheasant and one of the birds proved a little slow on the uptake. My buddy stepped on it. Only bird they took home that day...
I had a great SS .22 target rifle with a scope I hunted rabbits, squirrels, etc with. walking back holding a dead squirrel by the tail I stepped on a pheasant that rose directly in front of me, I was alarmed (!) by this but fanned the trigger on an empty chamber, heart pumping. this is why I hunt alone- not for sake of safety, it's just a helluvva lot less embarassing.
Maybe back in ‘51 the Bean catalog was more serious than now. My favorite catalog in the 60s was the Herter catalog. Fishing, fly tying tools and materials, gun parts (including Sako actions), clothing, waders, it had it all. I guess they sold out to Cabelas and then the remnants got discarded. Sad.
Yup. As a boy in the 60s, the Herter's catalog was my wishbook, although there wasn't much I could afford. I still have my Herter's Canadian Fish Fillet and Camp Knife, and sheath. $1.67 including instruction book on "how to fillet fish so no bones are in the fish." That's according to my 1965 catalog.
Careful of crossfire, boys.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was somebody's gonna get "Cheney'd".
ReplyDeleteYep, someone about to pull a 28ga Dick Cheney.
DeleteCheney would take the shot...
