And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Back in the early 70's, a magazine writer was interviewing a top IPSC shooter and asked him how much he shot. The shooter replied "about 85K a year". Back then reloading for a .45ACP was about a nickle a round. The writer remarked that that didn't seem outrageous to shoot 85,000 rounds a year to get to the top of his game. The shooter replied, "that was dollars".
I have my grandfather's NY State Militia issued M-1911 whose serial number is in the range of the pistol being manufactured in 1913. A true family gem.
I've shot a lot of 1911's and a lot of 45acp, and I just don't remember ever seeing that amount of recoil in any of the shooting I've done. Maybe I wasn't paying attention to that aspect of the operation but that just seems to me to be a hell of a lot more jump than I'm used to.
teenage me standing on a cliff overlooking Lake Erie (it would now be the Center Road Nuclear Plant in Perry, Ohio) with a two-hand grip on my Colt .45 Auto, both eyes open, seeing the base of the bullet as a dark circular spot as I launched it towards Canada.
My dear ole daddy, let me shoot his 1911 with absolutely no introduction as to what to expect (IIRC, I was 5-7 at the time). That much recoil would have been preferable to the beating I got from him having to dig through the brush to find/ recover it :-).
Me also John, and love it as much as the first time even though I am actually hitting my targets now more regularly!

ReplyDeleteGod's pistol caliber. I've got .45 ACP in Colt 1911, H&K USP, Springfield XD, Glock 21, and Walther PPQ/PPX.

Yes. That shot appears to have been done by a complete novice. No control at all.
