And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I've got the earlier 10" double bevel version. Same design exactly. Bulletproof, easy to adjust, goes all day. Great tool, good fit & finish. My singular complaint is that the dust bag is worthless and a pain to empty. Just get rid of it and use a big vacuum collector or a broom.
Definitely get a good compound miter saw. I diched my Delta sawbuck and went into debt for a Hitachi 12" double slide, never regretted it and my trimwork improved so much I almost decided to stick with carpentry. My back talked me out of it though.
8 1/2" is a whole nuther set of blade sizes, and may be hard to find. Stick with what works, like Matt said. 12" double bevel. Expect to pay about $600. or more.
If I was in the market I'd take a good, hard look at this'n:
I bought my first miter saw (a simple one) as an impulse buy as I was walking thru a bigbox store, I had the money. I set it up so it's cutting surface was the same height as the workbench/table saw, put it at a place that was easy to get to & started using it. It didn't take long until I wondered how I'd gotten by without it!
Can't comment on the quality (Bosch appears to have a good reputation) but I hate that design. Takes up way too much space in back. Festool, Metabo, and Makita (IIRC) all have a fixed-rail system which doesn't require two extra feet of space behind the saw. Haven't bought one yet, but when I get around to replacing my old Harbor Fright slider, I'll go with one of those (probably Metabo, 'cause I'm cheap).
Preventive maintenance and lubrication, but ONLY per Manufacturer spec. These aren't like that bulletproof Milwaukee or Porter Cable worm drive saw that you're used to chucking into your box after using it all day and just leaving it there until the next time you need it.

ReplyDeleteCan anyone recommend how to stop the slides - on any saw - from sticking?
