  2. Pvt Pinkley didn't die. He was grievously wounded but was able to make his way back to Allied lines where he took over a troop of tanks that had taken a severe beating and whose crews were shell-shocked in the opening phase of D-Day. When asked who he was, due to his injuries he said that he was "kind of an oddball" before passing out and receiving medical attention. Since he didn't have any dog-tags his troops just started calling him Sgt Oddball. He later took part in an operation which saw his tank troop, supported by combined arms of infantry, artillery, combat engineers and the divisional band strike deep into the heart of German-held territory only finally being stopped at the French town of Clairemont by superior enemy forces. However they were able to clear the town of enemy prior to the disbandment of the combat team. In the aftermath of the war, Moriarty Stubing, the mechanic, decided to go to sea and try his luck on a cruise ship eventually ending up as the Captain of the Pacific Princess; Big Joe Kojak became a cop in NYC and rose to the rank of Detective Lieutenant; Pvt Harry Kelly also became a cop in NYC and went by the moniker "Dirty Harry." Due to his injuries, Pvt Wladislaw was honorably discharged from the US Army. He settled in New York, changed his name to Kersey because "Wladislaw" was too hard to spell, became an architect, got married and had a daughter. Unfortunately, his wife and daughter were killed due to the high crime rate in the 70s and 80s. Mr Kersey travelled throughout the country until his death from natural causes.
