And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
There was a story about this some years ago, an interview with a good old boy who said he was behind the prank; as a young man he had rented a suit with a couple of buddies and set off for the woods one weekend to see if they could stage something and get away with it, just for laughs.
They went into some detail on the interview (a TV news program) but the whole thing culminated, as they summed up the evidence, when they showed the guy walking down the sidewalk. There was no mistaking that walk, it was exactly the same, and clearly the guy's natural gait.
