I wonder what a pristine example of a VW Bus of this vintage goes for these days?

  4. Had a 74 Type 2 out in AZ. Moved to MI and had to sell it, no way it could produce enough heat to defrost the windscreens let alone heat the driver. Even though I was 3 miles from work, had to scrape ice of the inside of the windscreens to be able to drive that distance, frozen.

Did not want to install a gasoline fired Webasto heater, so away it went. Was a fun car in warm weather though. Amazing what you could haul with it.

  5. Had an '80 Bus with the 914 engine. I loved it, wifely unit hated it, so traded for Dodge van with Captain's chairs. Wife liked it, me, meh.

  6. What you call a 23 window deluxe. It can be a deluxe without the 23 windows. The white steering wheel is the giveaway.

  7. Tied of SUVs and bucket seats bring VW bus, vans, station wagons and wheels of the 60s and 70s. Nothing better than having honey up against you.

  9. My first bus was a green & white '59 with the mighty 36 hp engine. Right now I have a '90 Vanagon with a subie 2.2 in in, merges like a real car!

  11. I had my first midshipman cruise aboard Epperson (DD719) in the summer of 1975. During my time on the ship we cruised between San Diego and Vancouver. When we tied up in Seattle, we were near a pier that looked like this, only the cars were Datsun Z's; don't know if they were 240, 260, or 280. I found myself wondering if they'd miss one.
