And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Space Flight - Still amazing after all these years
I am currently watching Ad Astra, perhaps the worst scifi film ever made, including Plan 9 from Outer Space. In the opening scene, Brad Pitt falls of the International Space State all the way to Earth. Fortunately, he knows sky diving and can navigate to lower altitudes where the parachute he was wearing on the ISS breaks his fall so he can walk away.
I'm about half way through the film. It is filled with other lunacies, like space ships stop in space when their engines stop.
I'm assuming the whole thing is a dream sequence, since it is very heavy on the psychological problems Pitt has with his missing father.
The Expanse is actually not awful so far as space ships. Especially since there's no way to really simulate 1/3 g or less without going completely CGI at huge expense.

More later.

DeleteI believe what he fell from was a Space Elevator. There has been talk of the feasibility of building them for 50 years.
ReplyDeleteDamn you Barrack Obama.
ReplyDeleteWaitin' to see Elon's Starship parked at the ISS. The manned version will have as much if not more internal space than the ISS.
