And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
In times past there was a friend who would put on a guys only trip in the Fall to his cabin in Tahoe. Five or six of us would show up and eventually, we'd find ourselves out in the Nevada desert for a day of four wheeling and shooting. Inevitably, someone would pull an old iron like that one out and we'd all take turns shooting it. Later, we'd retire to a local Basque restaurant and feast out. Always plenty of ammo, food and bawdy laughter. Good times.
